Greetings,
did I surprise you?
Let me guess:
- Stunned by the panorama photo of
Campbell River and Quadra? This is where we live, this
is overwhelming, this is paradise! What a great aerial
by Chris Carter (see below), taken recently, without
smoke stack, how pretty is this?
- The term Campbell Riviera
is not my invention. It describes best the potential of
our area in many respects (no matter if you live, play,
work, retire, visit ... here). I got it from Catherine
Gilbert from our great
Museum and she should tell us in our next
log book entry how she came up with this.
- ... that you got this newsletter in the first place?
Well, in these times of permission marketing
one has to think about who to email something. This went
to people like you who care for he future of our fair
city. If you don't want to receive further emails, no
sweat, just unsubscribe
below.
"Campbell Riviera" is a new name, something that's
worth talking about.
It is not a project, but a community, a
tribe of people who think in the same direction. Let's
make it a tidal wave if you share this
newsletter with friends (forward at the bottom)
You may question if this "Log Book" is the ideal
instrument - it's a start. It could develop into a
social network, using a Blog, Facebook, Twitter, or
other new ways to communicate. Why not!?
I am just the publisher of this log book - for the start
at least. You be an editor
and please send me comments, tidbits, photos, concerns,
which will be published here - unfiltered, and no fixed
schedule.
Enjoy Summer,
Jurgen Kettler

Waterfront City
One of our biggest assets is our 10km (or more?)
waterfront. The best on Vancouver Island:
waterfront living, waterfront shopping (this is
special!!), waterfront dining, waterfront
walking/biking (Sea Walk), waterfront leisure
(kayaking, diving, and oops, fishing, too). Can you
add more?
Hey, in times where some are concerned how the loss
of the Mill could be compensated:
(How) are we selling this
to the world, to our customers, neighbours, family
members, neighbour communities on Vancouver Island?

PS: Are we all waterfront shopping
here or driving to Courtenay or Nanaimo for the
bargain? Making our
small independently owned retailers
strong creates a strong return to our
community! This IS a viable
industry - make it stronger!

Missed Opportunities or unwanted?
We know first hand, running a
B&B, how many tourists drive through
Campbell River on their BC round-trip and either
do not stop here (because nobody told them to), or
just have a convenient stop for one night half way
between Nanaimo and Port Hardy - and then are
really surprised about what Campbell River (would
have) had to offer.

This one visitor from Tel Aviv two weeks ago
happened to stop for Fish'n Chips (he said he got
the best he ever had at
Dick's) and then decided to stay here
for the night. He could not believe how many
activities Campbell River has to offer. We are in
contact, he definitely comes back.
Do you want to blame him that he didn't Google
hard enough or should we do better!?

downtowncampbellriver.com
With
the Cruise Ship hype two years ago I started this
downtown web site. There was not much
buy-in from downtown businesses and business
associations. I just burried it a couple of days ago.
Lets hang on to all the positve elements we have.
For example if you want to know what Pier
Street is all about and what is going on on
the Pier Street Farmers Market,
visit the
Pier Street web site often!
If you want to know
what's on in this city and want to
get all events, restaurants, theatres, movies,
music, activities, clubs, parks, maps, ... you get
this and more
online or as a
print publication!
Somebody out there who gives us his or
her take on the July 1st
activities a week ago?

Let's show off the Beauty
Have you ever thought about it? there are not many
Campbell River landmarks documented in photos or
paintings.
For our
Gallery we encoraged several artists to
give us something for customers looking for
keepsakes, interior decoration, gifts,
go-away-gifts..
Chris Carter finally took off in a
helicopter two months ago and also just
made a photo trip with the
Aurora. The result so far are photos on
paper and canvas from great beauty, in virtually any
size, and boy are they affordable!
Practically, the largest size in our Gallery are the
Panoramas on canvas (see header as one example) in
13" x 72". Even larger ones are offered. Check out
his
web site!
I think, Campbell Riviera needs to document
it's beauty. Everybody and each visitor
should have one of these prints :-))
