News and Threads - fasten your seat belts! August 2009

Greetings,

I think it was worth waiting a bit for the second issue of our Campbell Riviera Newsletter!

Thank you all who contributed valuable comments on the July newsletter. So many comments, that I cannot publish them here all at once. But here comes the exciting news ("fasten your seat belts!"):

First: The Campbell Riviera Blog Site is up and running. Thanks to eZABU and Lawrence Lewis! All newsletter articles will be posted in this blog site, while there will be only short teasers in this newsletter. Biggest advantage: you may comment to any of these articles right away on the blog site.

If you not only want to comment but have a contribution to the Campbell Riviara initiative that you want to be published as a posting on the blog site and in the newsletter, just email it to me, together with jpg files of photos.

Second: All postings on the Campbell Riviera blog site are also posted on the new Campbell Riviera Facebook page to keep people updated on the Campbell Riviera initiative. Twitter and flickr pages are in the works as well.

This should bring the word out (PLEASE, forward this newsletter to many friends!) and at the same time it should start lively discussion threads NOW!

I look forward to your online comments and your article submissions! Stop by at the Campbell Riviera booth on this Sunday's Pier Street Farmers Market for a chat!

Who came up with "Campbell Riviera"?

Catherine Gilbert, Executive Assistant for Promotions & Membership with the Museum at Campbell River wrote me an email several months before I started this initiative:

"I was just talking to a co worker today about the potential Campbell River has to attract visitors and I felt that our downtown area is ignored. I wouldn't say that I have a clear idea yet, but wanted you to know that I have been thinking about how to market our fair city - something to the effect of the 'Campbell Riviera' or the Riviera of North Central Vancouver Island... something to express the exotic scenery and wealth of outdoor beauty (even though we don't have beaches - we do have a Casino!)  I also think ... read more

Did I mention that I got great feedback on our first CRiviera newsletter?

Promo Video on Campbell River

Leah Tremain, of Tremain Media, has been awarded the contract to produce the three minute promo video that will be shown at Vancouver International Airport in the lead up to and after the Vancouver 2010 Olympics early next year. Production has started in and around our community with completion set for the end of August.

The video is jointly funded by the City of Campbell River and the Vancouver International Airport Authority.

Campbell River is the place to be

Read in the Courier Islander:
Campbell River is the place to be this summer for camping and fishing opportunities, says a new list out from the Camping and RVingBC Coalition and Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.

Discoverfishingbc.ca and Camping and RVingBC Coalition recommended Campbell River in its top 10 fishing and camping opportunities....

Highlight is the Discovery Pier as one of the most accessible fishing spots on the coast.

Part of the rich fishing tradition of Campbell River is the annual tournament of the Tyee Club of British Columbia. With the great improvements to the Tyee Spit, citizens and visitors alike can enjoy watching the tyee boats.
